Celine Dion "My Heart Will Go On" from Ana Sofia Ramos on Vimeo.

Suddenly I am sixteen again...

I've talked about it before, but it bears repeating since it still hasn't changed - this song (and the movie) have such a treasured spot in my heart. It takes me back to when I was sixteen, an angsty teenager with the hugest crush on Leonardo DiCaprio, fascinated by the story of Titanic and the love story of the movie.

And god, Celine is just freaking amazing. Even now twenty years later, she has such power in her voice - such emotion. She's a true diva and her performance here is incredible and moving. I imagine it brings back memories of her husband - she appeared emotional during the performance, and I have to assume that she found herself thinking of him.

I really do need to rewatch the movie sometime soon. I haven't in awhile, in part because I can practically rewatch it in my head, but it's not quite the same. Besides, Leo and Kate are both eye-candy in this movie. :D

We're celebrating my Toronto cousin's milestone birthday (40th, like me) and her graduation too, with a bunch of her friends over in Tobago.

Left work Friday afternoon, headed straight for the airport in a mad rush, flight got delayed for 3.5 hours, reached there late in the night, utterly exhausted. But all that was worth it, just to wake up to this the next day:

Tomorrow's the birthday celebration and then going back to Trinidad on Tuesday. I applied for the day off on Monday, but gonna have to call in sick on Tuesday and face the consequences on Wednesday.

So worth it though. 2 more pics... )

In typical introvert nature though, I needed a little quiet time to myself today, so I decided to stay home, and left my cousins to entertain the tourists around the island. *g*

I am very slowly ripping my DVD collection into soft copies. Sigh.

Currently watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which is the first HP film I came across in my collection and I wanted a change from endless things to do with Sherlock Holmes. Honestly, there’s not a film or TV series with Sherlock Holmes in the title that I don’t buy. From Sherlock Holmes’s Smarter Brother, through Jeremy Brett, to the Hammer version of the Hound of the Baskervilles, you name it, I’ve got it. I think I must have five different versions of the Hound.

In other news, I still don’t have a job. One of these days someone will have to be fooled into taking me on.

Kitty is a happy kitty.

Hi guys! Wow! Can you believe that we're at the end of another season all ready? I still can't believe we made it past five much less twelve seasons with a Season Thirteen to come! I haven't seen the episodes yet, my plan is to watch them as soon as these are up. I wanted to post as early as I could this week because I know how excited everyone is to see the finale. Tell me what you think, the good and the bad. I can't wait to see what everyone has to say about whatever they've done to us this time. :)

The files are almost finished uploading. Once they're done, just follow the links below and then click to download whichever format you'd like best.

I have started ripping my DVDs having lost the soft copies I had amassed when I had to reinstall my operating system. It’s tedious work, but I should have a more complete set of the DVDs I own when I’ve finished.

What I won’t have is the ‘illegal’ soft copies I’d downloaded over the years. Boo! I shall have to find them again, though some are bound to have disappeared. It’s a bit annoying, but I’ll learn to live with it. I am copying the soft versions to an external hard drive as I go along, as I learn from my terrible mistakes. Always make a back-up! At least my documents were backed up to the cloud, so that’s not an issue.

In other news, there is no other news.

Smokey is doing well, though she did give me a scare by having diarrhoea for a couple of days. I think she’d got into my left over milk from my morning cereal and upset her tummy. That seems to have settled, thankfully. Silly kitty. I’ve also started giving her a more expensive dry food, as she wouldn’t eat the cheaper Tesco’s own brand dry food. Just turned her little furry nose up and refused to countenance it. We had a Mexican stand-off for a few days and then I caved. That cat has a backbone of steel.

  1. Welcome, [personal profile] velvetglovefic to DW! YAYYY! One of my original Smallville peeps from LJ (Hee. Remember MR/Megacon, back in 2003?). It's so awesome to see you round these parts. *___*

  2. I watched all of Sense8 - Season 2 this week. SO MANY EMOTIONS. I love it so much - the badass action, the humour, the family feels and connectedness. But then...AAARGGH cliffhanger-y thing, whyyyyyy? I want MORE. NOW. Dammit. :b

  3. Teen Wolf Fic Rec:

    Hunger (55382 words) by DiscontentedWinter
    Rating: Mature
    Relationships: Derek Hale/Stiles Stilinski
Summary: Beacon Hills. Two lost souls. A homeless boy, a lone wolf, and people who will stop at nothing to destroy them both.

Just enjoyed reading this one. It's a nice, long read, and the final chapter was published this week. :)

  4. Two Food Firsts:

    • French Fries
I had a craving (Heh. A side effect of reading Stiles-centric fic probably. :b) for fries at like 8:30pm last night. I've never made them myself before, as I have a fear of getting burned from deep-frying stuff in hot oil. But last night the FRIES COMPELLED ME. And it wasn't so bad after all. I sliced up a couple potatoes and eased them in the pot. No oil was splashed, and fries were delicious. :D :D :D

    • Pasta Sauce
The cleaner at work was selling these huge bags of tomatoes, and I wanted to give her a sale for the local produce, so I bought it and then didn't know what to do with it, because like THIRTY TOMATOES OMG. So instead of just throwing them in the freezer whole, I found an easy recipe at Food.com, and two hours of slow-cooking later, I had achieved yummy pasta sauce! \o/ I've been buying Prego's for years - I didn't realise it was so easy to make your own. ^__^

  5. Bullet Journal thing - At the end of each day, I've started recording a Daily Appreciation/ Happiness or as I short hand it in my journal: Daily :D
It's such a small addition, that simple act of taking a moment to reflect on the positive just before bed. I noticed that in directing my brain to actively recall the highlights of my day as I lie down, it quiets a lot of the mental noises that usually circulate at that hour, which makes it a bit easier to drift off to sleep. Usually I read until my eyes get tired, but then I always end up waking longer than I intended.

  6. Exercise - I am failing on that front, since the heat on afternoons after work is UNBEARABLE these days. However, it finally rained yesterday!! \o/ And I think the dry season is coming to a close, so hopefully with the cooler weather, it'll be easier to *want* to work up a sweat. Okay, it's the weekend, so no excuses - off to exercise! >:| (<--that is my determined face. lol)

Hi guys! We've had a hectic week so far, good things and bad, I'll tell you more tomorrow. Haven't seen this week's episode yet but I plan to when these finish, if I can stay up. If nothing else, first thing in the morning.

I'm uploading all three formats again this week because the quality of the MKV will be the best for those who care. The file size of the AVI tells me it's been compressed so, this way I'll have multiple options for you.

The files are almost finished uploading. Once they're done, just follow the links below and then click to download whichever format you'd like best.

Still applying for jobs. Still not getting any. I get the odd interview, but so far none have been successful. I’ve got one interview outstanding since March – they interviewed me in March and I still don’t have the outcome. But then one of my FB friends applied for a Civil Service job last June and started a week ago, so I’m not quite losing hope on that one.

In other news, there is no real other news.

Smokey is very well, full of beans and cat food. She’s currently asleep on the sofa – we had a lovely cuddle this morning, but then I had to get up from my recumbent position and start doing some work on the computer. So she stretched out into my spot, perhaps thinking it would stay warm.

Oh, I know what I’m doing – I bought the AD&D 5e (Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition for those who aren’t geeks) and have been writing a basic scenario so we can see how it runs. In this I’ve been assisted by my friend Patrick who is such a geek he even out-geeks me, and he calculated everything on his character sheet out by hand to ensure that I wasn’t cheating him out of any advantages his character should have.

What between him and me, we managed to spot a bug in the computer program I’m using to roll up characters, which made us both very happy. We’re strange like that.
