I haven't read Kenshin yet, but I did watch the director's cut OVA from Netflix after seeing a couple of fanvids (ali_wildgoose made a good one, Ivy) and it's certainly tragically beautiful and full of angst. But then I heard the anime series was much different, so I didn't give the manga a try.
