A good writing day

Yesterday it poured. All day. But that was okay, because I did my laundry and my grocery shopping on Saturday, so I had nothing pressing to do for the coming week. So I made myself nice food (potato soup for lunch, and chicken with green beans for dinner) and wrote. And wrote and wrote and wrote.

I have finally moved passed the Mary Sue paranoia that was keeping me from finishing the scene I've been struggling with since xmas, greatly helped by spending 4 hours writing up a html/php form and automating the Original Fiction Mary Sue Litmus Test. I did this mostly because I don't trust the scores I get out of it, since I can't keep track of all those numbers in my head. And thus! The ladies who maintain the original test graciously posted it (and very fast too...I only wrote it on Friday night. Yes, Friday night. This is what I do for fun. I know, I know).

Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] truepenny and [livejournal.com profile] matociquala for having truly wonderful discussions on the nature of Mary Sue (and how best to avoid her) in their respective journals (you can find those very engaging conversations here and here).

And wrote and wrote and wrote.

This makes me unreasonably happy.

Well, I appreciate that, but I'm not sure it really should! I haven't been writing fanfiction lately. I may have forgotten how, in fact.

Ah, well, it was too much to hope for.

Oooh, shiny Mary Sue test. This will make life much easier. Thanks!

Ooh, does that mean there's more for me to read? (I have three chapters.)

I'm just finishing chapter 6. I'll send you the next three when I've got them. :) Thanks hon. There are some subtle changes I'd like to make in the first three chapters already, but nothing too serious.

You have my thanks! It'll be MUCH easier to judge all of these characters I'm making now. @_@ Thanks again! (Since you like this sort of thing... Think you'd mind...? Erm, nevermind. XD; If you're interested in what I had to say, feel free to e-mail me. Otherwise, I won't use your LJ to promote. XD)

Thank you for the excellent Litmus Test - it was a joy to take. Too often these tests are so serious that I'm tempted to throw a spanner at the system and insert at least a few lies along the way. Because you kept your sense of humour, I was entirely honest. My Mary Sue score was 31 - borderline - and I rec'd the test on my journal for others to enjoy. Thanks again!

if you're still interested in the mary sue issue, the latest issue of bitch (10th anniversary edition) has a lengthy article on it.
