Writing

I wanted to write a lot today. I think this every day. I love writing. I'm waiting to hear about a series of jobs. I'm waiting to hear about my sister having a baby. So I wait and I write. I didn't get nearly enough writing done today, and what I did write was merely two paragraphs.

Two.

Disappointing. But I was just reading over one of those two paragraphs and right now...just right now, I rather like it. So I shall post it.

One of the two paragraphs I managed to write today. )

hmmm

Good idea: take a survey for money.

Bad idea: unplug your phone at the exact time that the woman was supposed to call to come back it up and give you money.

Fear

I am afraid of two things that I can think of off-hand. Wait, no. Three. Ish. First, I'm afraid of things that come from the water. Seafood. Fish. And this picture below squicks my so badly I think I need to take some valium.

v. stupid man swimming with an evil, scary horrible stingray

But I am also afraid of a couple of other things. Now, this next one I've been working on, and I'm getting better, but...my next issue involves

needles of any variety.

But my last fear, and the one that's flipping me out right now, is

thunderstorms.

God help me.

OH MY GOD.

I just. I can't handle it. I just can't. I need to be shot. When Tom Felton was a wee lad I didn't have this problem, but...

Draco. Going to go glare at Harry. Must beat Harry. Must. Be impressive.

Draco. Glaring at Harry. Harry glaring back. Must. Impress. Each other. Must. Be. On top.

Folks, I'm just not strong enough for this racket. Who will see this movie with me when it comes out? I simply cannot see it alone. I cannot. I will cry and everyone I know will think I've gone mad. I must travel somewhere and see this with someone. Help! Help!

Sure. You all think you know what inspired Harry Potter. A little Star Wars, a little Lord of the Rings, a little Worst Witch? Sure. Uh huh. You can think that. I know the truth.

The actual inspiration for it came from a most unlikely source: Archie comics. Oh yes. Our favourite British wizard is actually just our favourite American Teenager.

Well, Harry is clearly Archie. The books are called Harry Potter. The comics are called Archie Andrews. I mean really. How obvious could you be. Archie is a bit of a doofus, but everyone loves him. Well, everyone, that is, except for Reggie (Draco) and Veronica's father (Lucius). I think what JKR did here was quite clever; she made Draco an amalgam of Reggie and Veronica. So, for you het lovers, H/D is really just Archie/Veronica, but for us slashers, it's Archie/Reggie. Oh yeah baby. Reggie even has the slicked back hair.

Jughead is clearly Ron. Big tall guy who is Archie's best friend, is smart when pushed, but is mostly just a smart alec. Girls. Ooookie. (Okay, honestly, Jughead is clearly gay, but we'll leave that for the moment.) She just switched their hair colour, if you think about it.

Mr. Weatherbee: Dumbledore. Instead of going bald, she gave Dumbledore lots of hair. Yeah, good cover. Dumbledore is a bit more kindly in the film, but if you remember in the book, he does threaten death upon any student breaking the rules. Yep. That sounds Weatherbee-ish.

Ms. Grundy: Professor McGonagall. The tough as nails female teacher who is really very cool deep down and loves the boys dearly. I can see Ms. Grundy turning into a cat, can't you?

Hermione: Dilton Doiley. Very smart and largely asexual until something dramatic happens. Will be the one to figure out all of Archie and the gang's problems.

Ginny Weasley: Betty Cooper. Yep, the all-round good girl who will probably be the one Archie ends up with in the end, even though he's actually in love with Draco/Reggie/Veronica. Archie is very very fond of Betty and hangs out with her because she's so nice to him and worships the ground he walks on. Jughead is very protective of Betty and often gives Archie stern talks about treating her badly in favour of Veronica. He's so in lurve with Draco/Veronica.

Dean Thomas: Chuck Clayton. The black guy who's there and a friend but doesn't really have much of a personality. See Tokenism.

And that, my friends, is the real inspiration for Harry Potter. Brought to you by the pouch of archie comics in my apartment, and me, with love.
