DVD, which I do not have
Apr. 12th, 2003 12:19 pmI do not have the CoS DVD, as I do not have a DVD player, and hence it would be rather useless in my hands. But that's okay. I'm hearing all about it from everyone.
I would just like to suggest that Draco is a mean little SOB because he is depressed. I mean, look at him in the deleted scenes. His father slamming that cane around all over the place at Draco's hands, his head...the sad, whimpering little, "I'm sorry, father." That's the most heart-wrenching Draco-moment ever. I mean, in the book he's still rather snotty, isn't he. He whines in the first one about getting presents, and his father insults him rather a lot. But in this one Draco's just being curious and gets whacked around for it. He's crunched under he's father's jackboots, he is. He's depressed. He has no freedom. He can't be a light-hearted, fun guy, because his father will thwap him if he does anything out of line. That one line, that "Sorry," made me think that he's quite scared of his father.
HARRY IS A HEARTLESS BASTARD NOT TO FEEL A LITTLE SORRY FOR HIM. I mean, granted, Harry has no family who cares about him at all, which is ouchie, but at least he's not getting thwapped around with a snake cane and shamed by someone who is in fact supposed to love him. His father is dead and beautifully martyred and looking lovingly down at him from that mirror. That's no the face of a man who would ever thwap Harry. Oh no. The Dursleys may be horrible, but at least they don't hit him. Tell me that man doesn't cuff Draco on a regular basis. Tell me he doesn't. Of course, the Dursleys show no interest in Harry as a human being at all, which may be a hell of a lot worse, but hey. Harry is compassionate. Why is he not compassionate toward Draco?
Oh right, probably because Draco keeps making nasty comments about who's going to come to a "sticky end", so to speak, and is clearly racist as all get out.
But still.
