Buckle up, folks! Obscenity is the new terrorism!

When FBI supervisors in Miami met with new interim U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta last month, they wondered what the top enforcement priority for Acosta and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales would be.

Would it be terrorism? Organized crime? Narcotics trafficking? Immigration? Or maybe public corruption?

The agents were stunned to learn that a top prosecutorial priority of Acosta and the Department of Justice was none of the above. Instead, Acosta told them, it's obscenity. Not pornography involving children, but pornographic material featuring consenting adults.

Livejournal Retrospective

I've been poking through my own archives trying to find something for someone (accioslash, and along the way I've found all kinds of odd and amusing things. And thus:

The Ivy Blossom Livejournal Retrospective. In which I:

...Consider the possibility to writing a story that would be a prequel to my first ever (and very awful) fic. In this entry, I was giving this new fic the tentative title of 'Origins'. At that time I seemed to think the story would involve a buldger. No idea what that was about.

...write out, in code that's a combination of C++ and perl, what would be going on in the background of a fic in some weird magic that was basically hacking, apparently. I'm actually quite frightened by how much it says about my current life that I once actually wrote code that fit inside a piece of fiction.

...parody a very great fic written by penelope_z. This, I think, should be my lasting contribution to HP fandom. Flatulent!Draco.

...announce that I'd become an auntie.

...write about the stages of fanfiction addiction.

...post my first ever short fic, Blue Vase. I wrote thst story in about 3 hours or so, and I was so shocked to start and finish something in the one sitting I was actually nervous to post it. I got over that very fast.

...ask, Is slash misogynist?

...reveal that my friend Katharine Nicholson was not playing Pansy Parkinson in the films. Yes, that was controversial at the time.

...ask, is HP slash fandom homophobic?

...re-evaluate how I'm writing incest in Your Darkest Voice, a set of stories that remains one of my favourites. For the first time, a stranger directly influenced how a story I was in the middle of writing would proceed, because of an IM conversation that I posted at the time, but under a heavy, heavy lock. I'm now unlocking that post, because this is probably one of the most disturbing and most interesting experiences I had in fandom. You never said she didn't want it: why it's dangerous to write about incest in fandom. [You can find the fic that spawned this exchange here:1: Under, Nice Boy, 3. And to think when I started out in fandom (in 2001, good god), I really thought I would just be involved for a month or two. Oy! Blame accioslash for this little jaunt down memory lane.
