it was much, much easier to write a full, crappy draft, then go back and edit, than it was to stop and edit as we go along.
I actually completely disagree with this advice, because I have 100K words of draft that I had to throw out because I wanted to get a complete draft when I should have stopped and consider what direction I was heading in. Personally, cutting 100K words is disheartening, discouraging, and disspiriting.
Unless by "draft" we mean "detailed outline". In that case I can agree. But to me "draft" means "thing that just needs some tweaking" not 'thing from which I will take my cues when I write the real thing".
But then you like editing and I don't. Though hopefully I will like editing the thing I just finished better than the one I had to throw away and start over.
