....I just realized that I've never noticed that 'The Toronto Maple Leafs' is grammatically incorrect.

O_O

Hopefully this just proves that I'm Canadian to the core and not that I'm just not very good with grammar.

Um...perhaps we can call it artistic license?

(Hockey is an art form. *nods*)

Maple Leaves...

Well, being from a rival town, I call them the Laughs, which settles the grammar problem quite nicely. On the other hand, my team aren't doing particularly well, either, so I should shut up now.

The sign of a dead hockey team is when people know more about the Leafs than they do about the Habs. RIP Canadiens. /random

But it would sound awful to say the Leaves, wouldn't it? And there wouldn't be the instant name recognition thing :P But the test of being truly Canadian- do you have a t-shirt of the "I Am Canadian" rant Molson ad, and/or recite half of it without prompting?

Ahhh, that comment above should have read when people *in Montreal* know more about the Leafs than about the Habs.

just to play devil's advocate, i think the test of being truly canadian is a refusal to have one's national identity promoted to the world at large as merely a commodity. i am more than a beer and some over-paid ad executive's script.

on a side note, even though i'm a leafs fan by default, where i live right now, the big rivalry is habs/bruins. anyone who smashes the bruins is okay in my book.

*giggle*

I'm not sure when I realised that it was grammatically incorrect, but it was a while after I started following the team. Fact is, I don't really care, even though in all other circumstances, I would.

*shrug* Call it being Canadian. Call it whatever. But I don't think it matters much ;)

LOL It never really registered on me, either. Ah well. Such is the joy of being Canadian. :D

I'm not even Canadian, so what's my excuse for having to reread the thing 4 times before I realised what was wrong? *beats head on desk* Anyone want a beta? *snort*
