Do you think it's generally frowned upon to bring a laptop to class? I think I'm getting sick. I'm more tired than is allowed and I feel kind of sniffly. But I will fight it, yes yes I will.

*fights*

I think I'll bring the laptop. And strap on the wrist brace. And then I can actually do my computer assignment during computer class. That would be good use of my time, I think.

I can't think why not. Here, at least, laptops are pretty common - especially in computer-y classes.

Feel better!

I thought students were practically required to bring laptops to class these days. ;)

Here at Lakehead people bring laptops to class all the time - none of the profs seem to mind, they know that it's easier for some students to take notes that way.

And ick, cold! *cheers Ivy on*

My laptop = my life. It's the only way I can take notes in class at all, and no professor has ever seemed to mind. Plus, it means that distractions are readily to hand when the prof is saying nothing at all in a very long winded fashion.

Depends on the campus culture, but here, laptops aren't looked at as rude or unusual or anything. Not too many students bring them (I think a lot don't want to be arsed to unplug them), but when one does it's more of an "Oh look, cool!" than a "How dare you?!?!"

I take my laptop to class nearly everyday unless I'm going to be spending the day mostly in art classes.

I see people with laptops all the time. As long as you look like you're paying attention to the instructor and have it on mute I don't see that there should be any problem.

I've only taken Gabrielle to class with me once and that was because the instructor asked me to...I love her too much to risk her being stolen :$:$:$:$

I always brought my laptop to class--I type faster than I write, so it was easier to take notes. Plus, the building had wireless, so if the class got boring... *g* It's just a sign you're a modern IS student, ready to forge ahead to the glorious Information Future!

Well, at Queen's very few bring laptops so those who do look silly and out of place.

At least I think they do.

At my high school we're wired for wireless internet access (because we're on a college campus), and laptops are very common, and they're also common in the major lecture halls up in the main library. So I wouldn't say they're frowned upon at all.
