Because I missed a few of my own favourites...

Jennie Trout kicks some ass in a misogynist University of Toronto classroom. 130 years later I still feel like I recognize the place...

Louis Riel. I hadn't seen this one until last night, and it scared me. I'm not sure this heritage minute actually tells the story of Louis Riel very well, but man, this thing freaks me out. Do people even know what a Metis is? I feel we would be better served if, say, Steven Spielberg made a movie on this topic. Steve? Call me.

Lucille Teasdale, Canadian doctor in Africa. This one makes me weep. It's like Gia with much, much less nudity.

The history of Canada is not defined by its great events as in the US. We prefer to highlight our grand fuck ups. Here, witness how getting utterless lost contributes to the history of North America. Another lost chapter from Stupid White Men.

How Canadians killed lots of Chinese men to set up a railway system they currently underfund.

And finally, Agnes Macphail demands penal reform, a recommendation from [livejournal.com profile] auntbeast. I this one too. "Is this NORMAL?"

Did you mention the Laura Secord one? I'm too lazy to go back and look, at the moment.

(Sidenote: I think that short would've been a lot better if they'd included the fact that Laura Secord got past the Americans by saying she was looking for a lost cow. Cows are comedy gold!)

Oh cool more Teasdale's throughout history :) (I'm a Teasdale and I dorkily eat this stuff up!)

So over the mountains and over the plains
Into the muskeg and into the rain
Up the St. Lawrence all the way to Gaspe'
Swingin' our hammers and drawin' our pay
Drivin' 'em in and tyin' 'em down
Away to the bunkhouse and into the town
A dollar a day and a place for my head
A drink to the living and a toast to the dead
Oh the song of the future has been sung
All the battles have been won
On the mountain tops we stand
All the world at our command
We have opened up the soil
With our teardrops and our toil.

Isn't that like, the Canadian National Anthem or something? My expatriate Canadian friends seem to think it is.

You're still missing the Nellie McClung one; that was always my fave. Take that, you smarmy long-bearded premier!

It's all about being a not-nice woman;)
