I have done so much editing, I have nearly edited my head right off. When last I was complaining about editing, I was in the thick of chapter 10, which I finished (!!!) a couple of days ago. But now, I am working on chapter 14. 14!!! Of 18! And 15, 16, and 17 only need minor tweakage. (!!!!!!!)

I'm very excited. If I get my ass in gear and go finish my homework assignment for tonight, I can even finish chapter 14 today!

I'd just like to take this time to say that no one should ever write a novel the way that I wrote this novel. I mean, I think it's working out okay now, but man. I think this took way longer than it should have because I made a whole bunch of mistakes I should have caught the first time around. Like, don't spend 8 months writing 90,000 useless words, eh? I realize this is what people call the "first draft", but it would be NICE if, say, more than three chapters of it were useable, eh? Yeah. Sure I learned a lot, but did it have to take 8 months and 90,000 words to learn that?

I've spent the last six months rewriting the entire damn thing. Minus those three chapters, which are, as I said, 15, 16, and 17. With some tweakage. Maybe a new part here and there. But that's just fun, just window dressing, my friends. If I'm not done this bad boy by christmas I will have fallen into a hole and have been unable to resurface to type the last few lines. I AM VERY NEARLY DONE.

Though of course in the process of writing draft 4 I have determined that one very important character has all the lamest freaking sections, so after I'm finished this run through I will commense DRAFT 5, which will contain only the new parts for him. I am deleting all his parts now and just putting in notes about what should go there. So I can come back to it. Cause you know, I should probably write them so they all jive with each other. Same character and everything, yo.

And then....well, who knows what happens then. Then I start on book 2. Wheeee! I wonder how many useless words I can write for that one! Glee!

Oh, God, do I know the feeling. Four years of over 10,500 words, and then I go back and read it and realize it's total crap and would make any publisher alive wish I were dead (or actually try to kill me, if they were really adamant). So I scrapped the entire thing, and now I'm writing something completely different, trying to juggle both of them at once (sort of. Depends on my mood).

lol. It's a fun sort of hell, but it's still hell.

Um, I feel like such a fangirl for saying this, but...I would really give anything to become a writer like you someday. Because the way you describe the whole editing/writing process of your original fiction? It's just exactly like how I imagine it. It's also probably naïve of me to say so, but I can only hope that my writing-life might ever be like that.

Meh, this sounds stupid and quixotic, so I'll stop. I guess I'm just t00bishly happy for you, since I love your writing so much. (one among many, I know. ^-^;;) *digs a hole, quietly buries self*

You are teh editing star, baby. I really liked the story anyway, but the characterisation's hit a whole new level, especially Jacob. It's inspiring: it's making me actually start playing with my own stuff again. Any chance of reading the new chapters? I've only got the first half of 10.

Wheee! I'm glad you're working on your writing again. :) And I'm glad you like the edit. And yes, I'll send on the new chapters shortly, I just need to add a part to chapter 11. And then I'll send it. A couple of days, maybe. :)

WHEEE! Thanks so much for reading it.
