Okay, serious question: who lives in Ontario?

I've been contacted by the CBC. They want to do a story about young people writing in slash fandoms, and they're looking for a few good women. I've offered to help them find some. I just got off the phone with a researcher for the show and she's really really cool. I'm sorry that I'm too old for the program (over 25), because I want to go to meet her! She's just discovered slash fanfiction and she thinks it's amazingly cool and has lots of respect for the girls writing it. So she'd like to talk to some.

If you have another fandom, please please link to this post somewhere where slash writers might see it. I think if the CBC does this story with this particular researcher that we'll end up with a really good program about fan culture, since she's so positive and so impressed by us. :)

Edited to add: I just got another call from their researcher. She says their plan is to dress people up for the interviews, so you'd totally be anonymous. They're thinking of camping it up too, dressing you up as whatever you want. Marilyn Monroe, TV characters, big glasses, whatever. Make it all the more hush hush and cool.

Wow. Someone who was finally thinking the same thing I was thinking.
I am a bit disturbed at cutting off the age at 25. The majority of people I know who are slashers are over that age. Plus I know there are 16 year olds who read/write slash, but I don't think that should be promoted AT ALL. 18-25, fine I guess. 16-25? NO. We have enough problems as it is without the extra stigma of 'corrupting youth.'
And like one other person commented, I don't trust the media. Not in the least. Maybe it's just paranoia, but so many times I've seen people saying they want to put slash/yaoi in a positive light, and then mock it the entire way through.

I certainly don't want to damper anyone's enthusiam, least of all Ivyblossom's! but always take anything wanting to highlight the slash fandoms with the proverbial grain of salt.

First of all, I trust no one in media. NO ONE. The fact that they've offered to dress people up in goofy disguises adds to the feeling of mistrust I have. "Ooh! I know what let's do! Let's dress the silly fangirls in goofy costumes, you know - like those total geek Star Trek fans who wear the Spock ears and stuff. That will make them look even more sad and pathetic than they were before!"
