Cover letters.

Today I am writing cover letters. I need to get them finished today because I have other work to do; also, because they are due Monday at noon and if they're not done by the end of the day I risk throwing myself into a panic.

Three cover letters.

I am vaciliating between being reasonably confident that I am a good canidate and completely terrified that none of them will want to hire me. WAH. They suggested we apply to 8-10 co-op placements if we really really want a go out on co-op. 8 to 10? I mean, come on. There aren't 8-10 co-op placements I'd want to do, quite frankly.

So I'm applying to three only, and it feels like such a risk. But there are only three positions in the sort of library I'm interested in. WAH.

Excuse me while I wibble into my keyboard.

Cover letters and resumes are only a small part of the "necessary evils" of the world. The sad facts are that (a) they weed out people who don't take the time to research what they really want, and then if it's between candidates, (b) most of the time it's WHO you know, and not WHAT you know.

WAH.

Write your cover letters to the libraries you want, and then go visit them. Actually ... it's better to do that in reverse order, but hey. Couldn't hurt.
