I think I just finished draft 5 of my edit. I'm like...in shock. I think I just finished it. I should probably give chapter one a better once over, but...
yeah, I think draft 5 is done.
Shock. Total. Shock.
Final word count: 91,048. WAH.

Re:
Date: 2004-02-22 10:16 pm (UTC)This doesn't make as much sense now as it used to, because a lot has changed in my mind about exactly how things are going to go. But basically the manuscript I just finished sets up a world and a set of characters that could do the things I got Harry and Draco to do in fic. So I needed the basics, and then I extrapolated from there. There were certain things I liked about the general plot of my novel-length fics, so I kept some of those, and expanded on a few other things, and then...yeah, built a world to house them. There's nothing at all HP about the universe it's set in. There are no witches and wizards, everyone is magical in one way or another. It's not this world, it's sort of Orson Scott Cardish here and now but not here and now, if you know what I mean.
So now that I think I've sort of finished book one I'm moving on to what is ostensibly a rewrite of a fic I wrote called Origins. But it's Origins with a plot. Also, on crack. It's good fun.
I think actually the reason I'm writing so much less fanfiction these days is because I rebuilt my OTP the way I actually want it to be.
That doesn't really answer your question, does it. There is a plot, yes...it's...uh....you really don't IM, do you?

Your prose brought me into this fandom on the reading level, so I, for one, would absolutely love to read your manuscript.
This is wishful thinking, as I don't have the time to read it (school.. grr), nor would you likely share it at this stage, but still. You've got a wonderful way with words, and you've every right to be proud.

Date: 2004-02-28 08:42 pm (UTC)But I really appreciate your interest. I'll be sure to keep you as updated as possible. Right now it's just making the rounds of a few trusted editor friends who are going to tell me what mistakes I made in this version, and then I'll try and fix it, and then maybe look for someone to try and sell it for me.
Weird process, really. Thanks a lot, though.
