I just changed my account status from "free" to "sponsored". I feel a bit whorish for doing it, but livejournal cleverly let me see what icons they have on file for me that I could no longer use as a free user, and I wanted to be able to use this icon again. That's all. I plan to try it out for a while and see how I feel about it.
Yes, if I were using the journal more often I could justify just breaking down and buying the damn thing, but honestly, it's not going to change my relationship to livejournal one way or the other. I don't use most of its features anyway (the stuff they give you when you upgrade). So there's really no point in me having a paid account. If I feel the urge I'd rather give the five bucks to someone who would actually make better use of those fancy features than I would. So maybe I'm a perfect candidate for sponsored. I want livejournal to get some $$ for their work, after all.
But it's really nice to have my dopefish back again.
Edited to add: Though...it no longer appears to be an animated icon. Hmmph. I'm fairly sure it was the first time. This may change my mind about the whole "sponsored" racket. ALL MY ANIMATED GIFS GOT KILLED. MURDER, MURDER, I SAY! CURSES!
Edited once more to add: That experiment lasted nearly 15 minutes! Without my animated gifs, I don't see the point. Back to free. And happy about it!
Edited yet again to add: Okay, I tried it in a different browser and saw that, yes, the animation is still there. So I take back my first edit. Sorry for the curses and wails, Livejournal. I spoke too soon.
