Oh man, my boss? So screwed. He's the youngest of four boys. Does that make him EXTRA GAY?

His wife is gonna be pissed. :))

Crap, I don't have any brothers. Does that mean I have to start dating a girl?

Hm. Intriguing. It could just be that the more sons a woman has, the more there is a chance of one of them being gay... since there's more of them. It is interesting, however, that there is a difference between being gay amongst biological and non-biological brothers.

I do feel like there's further research to be done about this, though. I mean, the psychological effects of being genetically related to your parents versus being adopted haven't been fully explored in that article. Plus, do they know how many older biological brothers that their guinea-pig-adopted-boys have? What if they all have like, seven? Would kind of disprove the point, no?

Don't get my wrong, I am not one of those people who think gayness is caused by the environment AT ALL. Am just playing the devil's advocate. Really though, I am not gay and am not a scientist who has done much research on the issue, so I am no expert anyway. *shrugs*

What are your thoughts? I've always been told by friends that it was more of a genetic thing, with perhaps (though perhaps not) some element of nurture in some cases.

Haha, didn't something like this come up a couple of years ago? *tries to remember*

Hm. So does that mean that a couple of hundred years ago when every couple had a lot of children, there were a lot more gay boys running around?

Haha! I JUST made a post with the same Ron argument. I think fandom has eaten my brain.

Actually, it's more like scientific proof that Ron Weasley is 5% rather than 3% likely to be gay.

But I like your version better, especially as my fundamentalist Christian homophobic sometimes-friend has four boys and expects to have at least two more children.

(No, they aren't red-heads, why do you ask?)

So if each brother bumps your chances up 30%, and Ron has five older brothers, does that mean there's a 150% chance that he's gay?

*happily ignores her utter lack of skill in math*

Maybe he can pass some on. Say, to Harry. Because he can really never be too gay, as far as I'm concerned.

Whether or not it ends up being true, it sounds like it would be a smart biological safeguard to help prevent overpopulation.
