Canadian Boy has Three Legal Parents
Jan. 3rd, 2007 12:14 pmWell, the right-wing criticism of gay parents is that the children not well served because they are somehow missing something in the arrangement; they might have two loving parents, but they don't have a father or a mother in their lives, and thus it's not right and proper. Things aren't as they should be, goes that line of thinking.
Well, as of today, children in Canada can have three legal parents. The boy in question has two mothers who are raising him, and an active dad who helped the women to concieve. All three are able to make legal decisions for him. If two parents are good, including both a mother and a father, surely three is better! Three people to love you! Three people to support you! Three people to make you dinner and tuck you in at night! Could it be better?
So I'm sure the Christian right will breathe a sigh of relief, no? All their concerns; vanished!
Or not. ;)

Date: 2007-01-03 08:17 pm (UTC)I think if they can't see the value of two parents of the same sex, adding in a third parent will do virtually nothing in their minds- besides, their real problem is the gayness, and that part hasn't changed so they will find some way to denounce this situation.

Date: 2007-01-03 10:53 pm (UTC)LOL, okay, I figured you were being somewhat sarcastic, but I did think you were hopeful about this progress, and I guess I misinterpreted that :D Sorry. I mean, it's great that Canada has this going on, I just am rather cynical about the rest of us. :D

Date: 2007-01-04 12:08 am (UTC)...Unfortunately, I can't help but think of a child in this situation when their parents decide to separate, or move, or what have you. Three people fighting for custody is not better than two, in my mind. Although, that isn't a reasonable argument against allowing this, just a probable consequence.
What do you think?
