Well, the right-wing criticism of gay parents is that the children not well served because they are somehow missing something in the arrangement; they might have two loving parents, but they don't have a father or a mother in their lives, and thus it's not right and proper. Things aren't as they should be, goes that line of thinking.

Well, as of today, children in Canada can have three legal parents. The boy in question has two mothers who are raising him, and an active dad who helped the women to concieve. All three are able to make legal decisions for him. If two parents are good, including both a mother and a father, surely three is better! Three people to love you! Three people to support you! Three people to make you dinner and tuck you in at night! Could it be better?

So I'm sure the Christian right will breathe a sigh of relief, no? All their concerns; vanished!

Or not. ;)

What about 4? One of my friends has a son, who has his mom, his "honeymama" (my friend's partner), his bio dad and bio dad's wife. I would say he's not missing out on ANYTHING. So take that you Christian right whiners. Hee.

Well, technically he only has two legal parents; his mom and his dad. Those are the two who can sign forms and make medical decisions for him. Step parents are not legal parents. In this case, if the non-biological mother walked, she could be sued for child support, in spite of the fact that there are still two other parents. I mean, concievably.

But still, yeah! But the religious right must love divorce, I don't see them protesting about those laws too often. :-/

That's great! I want a new mom. And an extra dad. Make things happen for me, Canada. I visited you once before, that's got to count as something. D:

I seriously doubt that will convince anyone that previously had a problem with the arrangement. After all, think about children of divorced parents... that is definitely not an ideal arrangement for the child, so more does not automatically mean better.

I think if they can't see the value of two parents of the same sex, adding in a third parent will do virtually nothing in their minds- besides, their real problem is the gayness, and that part hasn't changed so they will find some way to denounce this situation.

LOL, okay, I figured you were being somewhat sarcastic, but I did think you were hopeful about this progress, and I guess I misinterpreted that :D Sorry. I mean, it's great that Canada has this going on, I just am rather cynical about the rest of us. :D

Oh, no, I'm not even slightly hopeful, I'm sure they're going to hate this. Because it isn't really about the children, that's clear.

Awesome news! And once again, Canada looks faaaaaaaar more appealing than being Stateside, even with the freezing weather.

Well, it's January and it was a sunny 50 degrees here today. Not exactly freezing, I'd say.

Eeeek! That's so freaking wonderful. ^_^

...Unfortunately, I can't help but think of a child in this situation when their parents decide to separate, or move, or what have you. Three people fighting for custody is not better than two, in my mind. Although, that isn't a reasonable argument against allowing this, just a probable consequence.

What do you think?

Hey Washington! Look what Canada did! Super neat.

Also, loved the picspam on your place but didn't have time to comment. I think there's room for three parents and a tyke on that chaise longue, too. With maybe some room left for a pup. Hey Washington, check out ivy's chaise longue!
