None of these are particularly new, but I enjoy listening to them.
Do the Whirlwind (http://lolomgwtf.com/uploadedmusic/Architecture%20In%20Helsinki-Do%20The%20Whirlwind.mp3) - Architecture in Helsinki Junior Kickstart (http://ia200131.eu.archive.org/hdb1/audio/rwb003/rwb003-a1-the_go_team-junior_kickstart.mp3) - The Go! Team Staring at the Sun (http://danlindblom.com/mp3/Tvontheradio-StaringattheSun.mp3) - TV on the Radio
Shade of Blue (http://rivatar.com/music/Shade%20Of%20Blue.mp3), by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. My husband refers to this as 'Oh God, more depressing shit', but I love its mournful tones.
The Prayer (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=1369477323900E50) by Bloc Party cover of Gnarls Barkley's Crazy by Ray LaMontagne
Both have a kind of desperation that I find appealing. (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=01772E7842D3F141)
Dispatch - The General (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=4D06143679DCC8A0). One of the best songs about war I've ever heard.
Rock Bottom Remainders - Proofreading Woman (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=7F4C792B462143B1). Because there's nothing better than Dave Barry singing about grammar, especially for you librarian-type people. *g*
Rock Bottom Remainders - Stand by Me (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=7052D0CA231C12DA). Yes, it's who you think it is. Don't quit your day job, Steve.
Arrogant Worms - Toronto Song (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=95FE522371FF3D04) because it's the Arrogant Worms and I love them.
Cyndi Lauper - Carey (tribute to Joni Mitchell). I almost like this better than Joni's version.
O.A.R. - That Was A Crazy Game Of Poker (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=36B27CB9362802A7) Coolest. Song. Ever.
I'd send more because I'm a fileshare addict but I'm late getting back to work. (http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=6C54D37366D689D8)
Leave the Pieces - The Wreckers. I just like the harmonies in this, and they remind me a bit of the Dixie Chicks, though it's only two of them. And one of them is Michelle Branch?!
Someone Else's Life - Jo Dee Messina. I'm on this bizarre country kick lately. This song seems fairly anthem-like for me at the moment, mostly because I find myself looking at my job and wondering WHY? I'm not really interested in running off to Buenos Aires, but the thought is nice.
Gravity by A Perfect Circle (http://download.yousendit.com/F929C8E67BFA090D) Lyrics (http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/aperfectcircle/gravity.html) I'm not sure what's up with this one. I like it, but I don't like it enough to play it on repeat for four hours, yet I keep finding myself queueing it up on my little mp3 player. :x Where Do You Go? by Hunters and Collectors (http://download.yousendit.com/B2C6A30F40D3F7F0). Lyrics (http://www.azlyrics.us/115752) This is one of those bands that I just heard everywhere while I was growing up, so there's a certain amount of nostalgia. They've got a nice, clean sound to them, though. Mr Moon by the Headless Chickens (http://download.yousendit.com/2FD40DE13F6BC98F) Lyrics (http://lirama.net/song/41972) This one I *do* like enough to listen to on repeat for four hours. :D
My favorite Beirut tracks (all but “Elephant Gun” off of the Gulag Orkestar album)
I have no idea how to describe Beirut. *hand wavy* I heard there were accordions and banjos involved and was doubtful. Turned out I loved it. Beirut is what would happen if Balkan folk music and indie rock got together and had a baby. A reviewer on Amazon said “Imagine a band of slightly drunk gypsies on parade, and you'll have the general idea of how it sounds.” Yeah. Sounds about right.
The Decemberist's new album The Crane Wife. Kind of rock/folk/pop/experimental. I'm amazed and enthralled. Can be picked up anywhere, or if you like I'll ysi you a song or two.
Over the Rhine - I love them to bits. Her voice is beautiful, the lyrics and song arrangements are fantastic and well - for me, you can't go wrong with over the rhine. My current favourites are 'who will guard the door', 'bothered', 'the world can wait', and 'if i'm drowning' VAST is another good one that I dont think i've found any songs that I dont like - they're sort of eclectic and very sensual and I have to recomend Yunyu she's an australian artist who has been described as 'musical anime'. 'tis brilliant. (ok, its more bands than just songs, but I thought i'd recommend them anyway)
I've been on a "girl power" music kick lately. These are all sung by girls, and seem to say something about love...otherwise there's no real connection. Enjoy =)
Bonnie Raitt - I Cant Make You Love Me - http://www.sendspace.com/file/mzmuj1
Pat Benatar - Love is a Battlefield - http://www.sendspace.com/file/t2ddw8
Pat Benatar - Hit Me With Your Best Shot - http://www.sendspace.com/file/ijxkmd
Alicia Keys - A Womans Worth - http://www.sendspace.com/file/2ic6am
Martine McBride - This One's For The Girls - http://www.sendspace.com/file/co5cg2
Rilo Kiley - The Frug - http://www.sendspace.com/file/6z84dl
I have to confess that my current favorite is Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. I'm also kind of happy about "Before He Cheats" by Carrie Underwood (I didn't realize she was on that crazy singing show until somebody was appalled by the fact that I enjoyed that song. Huh.). Imogen Heap's "Sleep" is making me pretty happy, too, and the soundtrack for Serenity.
And because I'm really kind of supremely lazy, I just uploaded them all in a zip file here:
Overture (http://download.yousendit.com/81230D0904728BF1), by Patrick Wolf, because my personality resembles my icon and this song encourages its listeners to resemble something else.
(Since the album is still forthcoming, this version is a radio performance, and a jaw-droppingly beautiful one, although some bias is perhaps involved. One of the best things about hearing this song for the first time was recognizing the lyrics from an old and unexplained image (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v209/fairycake/patrick%20wolf/lyrics.jpg) that I once came across in a fan photo album. It was one of those moments that gave the universe another underlying sense of mysterious design.)
I hope that you find something you enjoy, from this comment or from any of the others. :)
I would give you an idea if I knew how to post you a link to it, BUT since I can't, this is the best I could do: the CD by Namie Amuro called "Style." It's in Japanese, but it's a wonderful CD! The song "Four Seasons" is absolutely beautiful and the more upbeat songs, such as "Put Em Up" will make you laugh, as her take on the English mixed in the songs is really funny!
On another note, where do you have your HP fics posted now? Veela-inc doesn't seem to work anymore. It's been years since I've roamed in the HP fic world and I'm trying to download all my fics again (long story involving the words "Single Copy," "CD," and "Ball-Point Pen." I loved your stories and am eager to read them again....

It's called 'Le Disko' and it gets really good at the slow part towards the end. Otherwise this is PURE guilty pleasure

Not sure if you're a fan, but I really like this song because it makes me want to break out in song and dance - broadway style when I listen to it.
