I would just like to point out that yes, I did get interviewed for that article, but I didn't actually say "Slash is a fringe element", he said that. "Finge element" is his term. I just said, being less than totally high profile keeps us out of trouble. d00d. We don't need the attention of the world.

Er....and he asked me very specifically about sexualized role playing "that transcends into real life." He wanted to know if it happened, and I said sure, sure, people can get that deep into it, and he wanted to know if I did it, so I said no, because it freaks me out, I have control issues with my characters and blah blah, it's a bit much for me, but I can't believe he used that quote. I mean, I did say it, yes, but context is everything.

Hey, man. That conversation was about forty-five minutes long. Nice guy though, really he was. He's never read the books. So there, John.

Ahhh, Ivy.

I've been interviewed for 5 mintues and several hours before regarding a variety of matters. And no matter how careful I am, the reporter/writer/editor words quotes and the article in such a way I did not intend. It's annoying isn't it?

I so don't do interviews any more.

Hugs. Hot there in South Ontario? We are hot here.

XO

Six years ago I was interviewed for a local newspaper feature article, and the only quote the reporter used made me sound like some kind of silly snob. I still cringe when I remember it. I interview people all the time now for my current job, and I always try to remember that feeling of being quoted out of context, but sometimes it's hard convey every nuance of what the subject intended. *sigh*

a friend of mine was interviewed about a dance concert she was putting on, and was asked about some of the dancers, including me. despite the details she gave out, the only thing that was written about me was that i was "a canadian and a college graduate." like somehow that combination is worthy of note? reporters live in parallel universes from the people they interview.

Hee! He kept calling you "Blossom". Do you now feel the urge to wear floppy hats with huge faux-flora on them?

No matter how hard you try, reporters will ALWAYS make you sound like an ass or misquote you. It's a proven fact.

*huggles* Not to weep babe. We all love you, even if journalists try their hand at being Rita Skeeter on you.

...and as someone who's sometimes a journo, i'd like to poke my head out and squeak that we're not all bad.

i am sorry though.

Ivy,

I'm feeling quite wibbly now for posting the link to the article in my LJ...I apologize if it was something you were less than thrilled with...I thought the article itself was amusing and even actually a bit informative for the non-slash initiated, but I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't stop to think that you might be displeased with the way you were (mis)quoted.

Please believe me when I say no harm was intended...

Mea culpa,
Olivia

Oh honey, it's not your fault. :) I mean, you're not the guy who called me, and besides, it was only a minor thing. I just thought...well, of all the things I said, he had to quote probably the only thing I said that could possibly offend anyone.

[livejournal.com profile] isilya was sitting next to me durning the whole thing and she wants him to post the recording as an mp3. Hehehhee.

Hee! Reporters are so evil, they always do that.

I adore you anyway, of course ;)

Eep. I posted a link to it too. It's one of the few articles I've read that doesn't say that all slashers are evil and are ruining a perfectly good children's book series.
I find it highly amusing that the author of the article hasn't read the books. I find it even more amusing that he asked about the role playing. What made that enter his mind?
Sorry you were misquoted. :)
